Best Leg Exercises

To get your legs in a great shape!

This page provides you with some of my favorite "best leg exercises". Why do I call them "the best leg exercises"? Because they worked the best for shaping my legs in the comfort of my own home. And I hope they will work for you too!

You can do them all in one session, or you can mix and match to keep it different every time. The most important thing is to have fun! If you're bored with your routine the chances are you will stop doing it.

What works best for me, is doing something different every day. For example I go for a brisk walk or a roller blade every second day, and on all remaining days I do a different exercise routine. Pilates one day, kick boxing the next and my own routine in between.

So get creative!

Go cycling, roller blading, jogging, or be a kid and jump a rope. Stay active as much as you can, and you will have toned and fit legs in no time at all.

Reminder

Before starting any exercise routine, make sure you warm up and stretch.

When performing an exercise you will want to take your time and isolate each muscle that you are working. Each movement should be slow and controlled.

Squats

They work your thighs and butt.

Stand with your feet shoulder width apart.

Bend your knees and lower your body until you're almost in a sitting position.

Hold.

Lift yourself up tightening your muscles.

Do 3 sets of 10-15 reps

Lunges

They work your whole leg and butt.

Stand with your hands on your hips.

Take a big step forward and lower yourself down so your knee is bent and aligned right over your foot.

Hold for a second and bring yourself back.

Repeat with the other leg.

Do 3 sets of 10-15 per leg.

Calf rises

They will sculpt your calf muscles.

Stand with your feel slightly apart.

Lift yourself onto your toes slowly, hold for a second and lower back down.

Repeat 15 times.

Next set, do 15 "pulses", meaning do them quickly, without stopping.

Do 3 sets alternating between "pulse"lifts and regular lifts.

Sitting leg lift

It will work your abs, quads and stretches hamstrings and outer thighs.

Sit on the edge of a chair with your hands holding on to the sides, and your feet flat on the floor.

Lift your legs to the hip level.

Press your feet together.

Hold and lower legs down.

Do 3 sets of 10-15 reps

Inner thigh lift

Sculpts your inner thighs.

Lie on your left side with your head resting on outstretched arm.

Bend your right (top) leg and rest your knee on a pillow or rolled up towel or blanket.

Make sure your knee is leveled with your hip and your hips are aligned on top of each other.

Place your right hand in front of your chest on the floor.

Lift your left (bottom) leg a few inches off the floor.

Hold and lower it back down slowly.

Do 10-15 reps and switch legs.

"Chair" position

Great for your thighs!

Stand with your back against a wall.

Slide down until you're in a sitting position with your thighs parallel to the floor.

Hold for 1-3 minutes.

Return to the original position
