Ingrown Hair
Put a stop to the razor bumps
If you suffer from ingrown hair on your legs you know how annoying and unsightly it can be.
Especially in the heat of the summer when we want to show off our great and sexy legs.
Unfortunately that’s when we also remove our leg hairs the most, which brings on the pesky ingrowns in the first place.
What is Ingrown Hair?
A normal hair will grow straight out through an opening in a hair follicle and continue to grow happily until you stop it by shaving, waxing or any other hair removal method.
That particular hair is cut or broken just below the skin’s surface. Most often this happens by shaving too close but it can also happen with any other type of hair removal.
The hair will not grow out straight up through the follicle but instead grows at an angle, pierces the side of the follicle and burrows in the skin. This will cause your skin to become inflamed and it will look like a small red bump or pimple.
When you wax, your hair is removed by the root which causes a major trauma to the follicle. The hair is pulled out at an angle and it will often grow back at the same angle into the side of the follicle instead of straight up.
An ingrown hair can also happen when the hair grows out of the follicle, but then curls back down and reenters the follicle. This type is particularly common with women who have curly and/or coarse hair.
Ingrown hairs are also known as Pseudofolliculitis Barbae or razor bumps.
So what can you do when you are prone to the pesky razor bumps? As always prevention is the best cure. And I dedicated a separate page to it.
