Laser Stretch Marks Removal

A cosmetic procedure to beautify your legs

Are you thinking of trying the laser stretch marks removal? If so then read on and find out if this treatment is right for you.

Laser therapy for stretch marks is still a very new procedure and the degree of its effectiveness is not widely known. During my research I encountered quite a few mixed opinions about it, which made me question whether it's worth to give it a shot.

Although there are some doctors that support this treatment, majority of the specialists such as plastic surgeons do not approve of the laser stretch marks removal. They claim that while the laser is able to remove and break down the tissue, it cannot not repair already damaged tissue.

However there are patients who are satisfied with the results and report significant improvement in the appearance of their stretch marks.

But what do specialists that provide the treatment claim?

Let's find out.

How does it work?

The laser beam is directed at the stretch marks. Its energy stimulates the skin underneath the stretch mark and increases the production of collagen and cell division. This action thickens the skin layers under the stretch mark and raises it, so it reassembles the surrounding healthy skin.

For mature stretch marks that are white, a different type of laser is used. Its action stimulates the production of melanin. Melanin darkens the white stretch marks and makes them appear more like the color of the surrounding healthy skin.

How many treatments are needed?

On average you will need at least 5 visits.

Of course the number of treatments will depend on the severity and age of your stretch marks. The older the stretch mark, the harder it is to improve its appearance with the laser. Ideally they should be treated when they are still new and pink in color.

How long does it take for stretch marks to diminish?

The results vary greatly among patients but there are some reports that claim in 50% improvement in the appearance of the stretch marks by the 6 month check up.

How much does it cost?

As always it depends on the laser clinic and the specialist that provides the treatment as well as the size of the area to be treated.

It is not cheap though. Expect to spend several hundred dollars per treatment. But the best way to find out is to schedule an initial consultation with the laser clinic.

Is there side effects?

Following the treatment the skin might be pink, like after a mild sunburn. On the rare occasions the skin might blister or bruise. This goes away within a few days of the treatment

My opinion

In my opinion laser treatment is too controversial to spend the large amount of money on. Plus it does not address the cause of your stretch marks. I definitely recommend exploring the more credible options first. Proper diet and supplements will repair your skin from the inside out and will prevent the new stretch marks from appearing.
