In the recent past, with the advance of medicine we seemed to have forgotten all about the wonders of natural healing...
But it is still here, waiting to be re-discovered.
On this page we will explore various herbs and supplements that have assisted me with my spider vein cure.
So let's get started and explore Mother Nature's natural cures...
Horse chestnut extract
By far the most popular and effective herbal supplement for vein health.
It derives from Horse Chestnut tree's seeds or "nuts".The main therapeutic ingredient of Horse Chestnut extract is Aescin which:
- Reduces inflammation and tones the vein walls which helps the blood flow back to the heart.
- Promotes vein elasticity
- Prevents swelling
It comes in different forms like pill, liquid, powder, cream or lotion.
Topical formulas are not believed to be as beneficial as oral formulas.
Dosage
It is recommended to take 250 mg. of standardized extract twice a day and if you choose topical solutions, follow the recommendations on the packaging.
Side effects
Possibility of upset stomach.
To avoid it, make sure you take the supplement with food
If you develop sensitivity or allergic reaction you may experience:
headache, itching, rash or dizziness.
If you notice any of the above stop taking the supplement and consult your doctor.
Contraindications
- do not take when pregnant or nursing
- may interfere with anticoagulants by increasing their action therefore it is necessary to consult with your doctor if you take blood thinners.
- consult your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems
If you decide to give Horse chestnut a try, make sure you:
- only use specially prepared extracts from reputable manufacturers,
- choose ones that contain 50 mg aescin per dose.
I personally have seen improvement in the appearance of my varicose, and spider veins, after using this supplement for a couple of months. I believe it is a great supplement for spider vein cure.
Grape Seed Extract
Grape seed extract is high in OPC (oligomeric proanthocyanidins) which are very potent antioxidants.
Among many other benefits, they promote healthy circulation and in turn help with spider veins.
The RDA for grape seed extract has not been established, but most research doses range from 50 mg - 200 mg per day.
Grape seed extract is considered a safe supplement with no known contraindications, drug interactions or side effects.
Hawthorn
Hawthorn has been traditionally used to strengthen the heart muscle and blood vessels.
The medicinal parts of the plant are the red berries that come from a small thorny tree or shrub, that is nativ to Europe. They contain flavonoids, vitamins B and C among others.
The supplements come in various forms, including pills, herbal teas and liquid extracts.
There is no known risks or contraindications in taking this natural supplement.
Vitamin C
This water soluble vitamin assists in strengthening the blood vessels.
Since the body doesn't produce it and gets rid of the excess every day, you need to replenish the adequate amount every day.
Vitamin C is quite easily obtainable from foods we eat every day.
The foods with high amount of vitamin C are:
Goji berries, citrus fruits, kiwi, strawberries, pineapple, avocados, tomatoes, alfalfa, cantaloupe, green peppers.
If you do not get enough vitamin C in your diet, you might want to consider taking supplements.
RDA (recommended daily amount) is 60 mg., however since vitamin C is not stored in your body, you can easily take much higher amount without the risk of overload.
I take 500 mg. daily and I choose vitamins that come from natural sources.
