Varicose Veins
Your legs can be varicose vein free
If you have varicose veins then, you came to the right place.
My guess is that you don't like your blue, bulging veins on your legs, and you want to get rid of them.
Well...Your wish is my command.
Here we will explore various options for preventing, minimizing and removing these pesky critters.
So let's start with a little anatomy and physiology.
What exactly are they?
Varicose are the veins that are bulging above the skin surface. They are dark purple or blue in color.
The veins carry the blood from the tissues, back to the heart and lungs. There are two kinds of veins: the deep veins and the superficial veins.
The superficial veins can be seen through the skin and are the ones that become the varicose veins. All veins have valves that prevent the blood from going back in the tissues. When those valves weaken, the blood pools which in turn stretches the vein wall and makes it more prominent or bulging.
Also when the walls of the veins are weak, it can cause the same bulging effect.
Why do we get Varicose veins?
There is no definite answers, however major studies determined some of the risk factors:
- Women are more prone than men (so not fair).
- Family history
- Overweight people are more at risk
- Pregnancy puts pressure on the veins
- Standing up for long periods of time
- Age-as we get older we are more prone to weaker veins
- Smoking
Varicose veins seldom cause major medical problems. They are mostly just a cosmetic nuisance.
And for a good reason. They are not very attractive to say the least.
Fortunately there are options when it comes to the treatment of the varicose veins.
Let's start with the best treatment which of course is the prevention.

Let's move on to the treatments...
Here, I provide you with the overview of the most popular treatments.
However the decision as to which one will work for you, rests with your vascular specialist.
He or she will assess your varicose veins, and based on their findings, will recommend an appropriate treatment.
The most popular by far is
sclerotherapy.
In the recent years laser treatment became another effective procedure.
Another one is VNUS Closure Procedure which is a fairly new procedure that was approved by FDA in 1999.
If your veins are very large and prominent, you might need
surgical vein stripping .
So how successful are the treatments? Can your veins return with a vengeance?
In some cases they can, but current treatments have high success rates.
WARNING
If your veins are painful, reddened and swollen you should consult your physician.
