My Weight Loss Story
I did it and so can you!
I hope you enjoy my Weight Loss Story...
I never had weight issues. Apart from my legs, I always loved the rest of my body. Small waist, proportional hips, nice shoulders and “just the right size”breasts. I always ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted and remained slim.
Then I got pregnant with my first child and I gained somewhere around 50 lbs. I didn’t care too much. It was necessary to my pregnancy and after my daughter was born I lost nearly all of the 50 lbs very quickly.
Then a year and a half later I was pregnant again. Another 50 lbs or so later my son was born. “No problem” I thought. “I will lose it all quick”. I even signed up to the gym as soon as I could start exercise routine. “Let those pounds melt!” I thought.
Well, was I wrong or what? 6 months later I was still over 20 pounds overweight and I already lost all the interest in going to the gym. I tried exercising at home, but that has proven impossible with my 3 year old who always attached herself to my hip as soon as I started the DVD.
I was frustrated and quite unaware as to how I should deal with my weight loss issues. I was embarrassed to put on my swim suit and I would refuse to wear my shorts as my thighs were quite “jiggly”.
But finally I decided that I should do something about it, so after talking to few friends I signed up for Boot Camp at my gym. I never worked out with a trainer and a bunch of people before so I was a little self conscious at first, but after a session or two I realized that all the participants were after the same thing I was: Get fit, look good, be healthy and feel confident.
The classes were fun and always different. I always worked up a sweat and I pushed myself more than ever before.
The next thing that I knew I had to work at was my diet. I never watched what I ate before, although I tried to make healthy choices but obviously it wasn’t good enough.
I knew one thing: I was not cut out to go on a diet as I hated to forbid myself to eat something I loved.
That’s when I heard of “The Fitness Challenge” at the gym and I signed up. On the first day we were all measured, weighted and fit tested. Then we were divided into two teams, each led by a professional trainer. The game was on! The team that lost more pounds and inches and got “fitter” would win a prize!
Our trainers would e-mail us weekly with a “task to complete” and motivational word.
I was pumped and ready to get fit, healthy and slim again.
I changed my eating habits by following my trainer’s recommendations.
I ate 5 or 6 equal meals per day. All my meals included a portion of protein, fat and carbohydrates. I also included some of my favourite foods, but I limited the amounts.
One day I would have a cookie (23 calories) and the next day I would have a piece of chocolate or other sweets. That kept me satisfied and I didn’t feel restricted and deprived.
I attended Boot camp 3 times a week and I tried to jog or walk on my “days off”.
I had few hiccups along the way, but all in all, I did excellent! At the end of our 12 week challenge my weight loss totalled 18 lbs, I gained muscle (which by the way weighs more than fat) and I got fitter than ever before.
I am now in the healthy range for my height and my body fat is in the 20% range. I also continue to eat healthy and I exercise on regular basis.
I never realized that inability to lose weight would help me to change my lifestyle from “not-so-healthy” to “quite healthy”!
So always look at the bright side and if I did it, so can you!
